Presidential Power Rankings # 22

May 30, 2007

Democrats:

1. Hillary Rodham Clinton (1)
2. Barack Obama (2)
3. John Edwards (3)
4. Al Gore (4)
5. Bill Richardson (5)
6. Joe Biden (6)
7. Chris Dodd (7)
8. Dennis Kucinich (8)
9. Mike Gravel (9)
10. Wesley Clark (10)

No changes this week, but if the ARG polls out yesterday from Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina are to be believed (and I am a little skeptical), and Edwards is ahead of Obama in all three states, it may be necessary to make a swap between # 2 and # 3.

Republicans:

1. Mitt Romney (1)
2. Rudy Giuliani (2)
3. John McCain (3)
4. Fred Thompson (4)
5. Mike Huckabee (5)
6. Newt Gingrich (6)
7. Tommy Thompson (7)
8. Sam Brownback (8)
9. Duncan Hunter (9)
10. Tom Tancredo (10)

No changes here this week. Nationally, this week's Rasmussen poll shows Romney catching McCain, while the ARG polls for this month once again show McCain leading all three of the important early states, but perhaps by a smaller margin than before. Currently though, based on other polls, Romney is averaging a lead in both Iowa and New Hampshire. If other polls assert that McCain (or Giuliani) is ahead in those two states, a change will be necessary. As a Romney supporter, I think he is going to win the nomination, but things got really good for him in the first two states a lot earlier than many anticipated and it may be hard to meet those expectations throughout the rest of the year.
