Presidential Power Rankings # 31

August 1, 2007

Democrats:

1. Hillary Clinton (1)
2. Barack Obama (2)
3. John Edwards (3)
4. Bill Richardson (4)
5. Al Gore (5)
6. Joe Biden (6)
7. Chris Dodd (7)
8. Dennis Kucinich (8)
9. Mike Gravel (9)
10. Wesley Clark (10)

No changes, but I really wish someone could emerge to unseat Wesley Clark. Why can't Cindy Sheehan run for President too?

Republicans:

1. Mitt Romney (1)
2. Rudy Giuliani (2)
3. Fred Thompson (3)
4. John McCain (4)
5. Mike Huckabee (5)
6. Newt Gingrich (6)
7. Sam Brownback (7)
8. Tommy Thompson (8)
9. Tom Tancredo (9)
10. Ron Paul (10)

No changes this week, but several interesting things to keep an eye on. I guess we will know after the Straw Poll on the 11th, who might be dropping out. I have a hunch that Tancredo and Paul could be surprise contenders for the second place finish in that straw poll, and that might affect where they are placed there.

In other developments, Fred Thompson's pre-campaign clearly is not without problems and Rudy Giuliani is remaining a consistent and effective force in the race.

ARG polls out yesterday show him with a scant one point lead in both Iowa and New Hampshire, which seem to contradict all other polls which show Romney with a clear first place showing. I said several weeks ago, that I expect the top slot in the GOP Power Rankings to bounce back and forth, perhaps between three contenders, in the weeks ahead, so if there are additional polls out soon that show that Giuliani might be moving into a lead in the first two states, he would obviously move into number one for the time being.
