U.S. House Special Elections

With multiple Speaker elections on the floor of the U.S. House over the past two weeks, and seemingly more to come this week, it may have been noticed that there are only 433 current House members. That is because two seats remain vacant. One will be filled on the official Election Day of November 7, 2023 while the other will elect a winner two weeks later on November 21. However, both seats are pretty easy to predict. So let us get that out of the way so that I can write about the two states that are electing Governors over the next two weeks.

Rhode Island

1. vacant upon resignation of David Cicilline (D)
won by Biden with 64% of vote

Likely Democrat

Utah

2. vacant upon resignation of Chris Stewart (R)
won by Trump with 57% of vote

Likely Republican
