West Virginia Governor Race

Race of the Day

West Virginia Governor

October 13, 2008
22 Days Until Election Day

Status: Democrat Incumbent
2004 Presidential Result: Red State (South)

Outlook: Safe Democrat

Running for a second term, Democrat Governor Joe Manchin of West Virginia is a talentd politician and a good fit politically for the state. He is culturally conservative enough to get votes from those on the right and of course is a Democrat, which is the party that has long dominated state-level government in the Mountaineer State.

Machin's Republican opponent is former State Senator Russ Weeks who is even more conservative than the incumbent. But he appears to have very little in the way of resources or support and should not pose much of a threat to the Governor. Weeks may be proud of the race he is running, but he probably should not expect a "Wild and Wonderful" Election Night.
