Presidential Power Rankings # 36

September 5, 2007

Democrats:

1. Hillary Clinton (1)
2. Barack Obama (2)
3. John Edwards (3)
4. Bill Richardson (4)
5. Chris Dodd (5)
6. Al Gore (6)
7. Joe Biden (7)
8. Dennis Kucinich (8)
9. Mike Gravel (9)
10. Wesley Clark (10)

No changes this week, once again.

Republicans:

1. Mitt Romney (1)
2. Rudy Giuliani (2)
3. Fred Thompson (3)
4. John McCain (4)
5. Mike Huckabee (5)
6. Newt Gingrich (6)
7. Sam Brownback (7)
8. Ron Paul (8)
9. Tom Tancredo (9)
10. Duncan Hunter (10)

After a good deal of consideration, I have decided not to alter the rankings this week. I really did almost move Huckabee over McCain based on a poll out of Iowa, but for reasons I have mentioned before, I feel it is best to hold off, at least for one more week.

Tonight's GOP debate in New Hampshire should be pretty important. One candidate that will not be there is Fred Thompson, although his first 30 second ad will debut right before the debate kicks off on the Fox News Channel. Already out to the media, the ad is being panned by many. We will know a lot more about just how good or bad a candidate Fred Thompson will be, after his appearance tonight with Jay Leno and his announcement tour this week.

Finally, it's been a pretty sad afternoon. Rest in Peace, Jennifer Dunn and Paul Gillmor.

Corey this is off topic but since I know how much you love hereing news about current and former Democrat Congressmen losing I thought Id pass this along. SurveyUSA is out with a poll today in the Nashville Mayors race that shows former Congressmen Bob Clement losing 48-46% to Karl Dean. The election is next Tuesday. Given the Democrats short bench in Tennessee, if Clement wins next week expect him to become the frontrunner for the Dems nod for Governor in 2010. Tennessee Democrats have a very bad habit of nominating a Ford,Clement or Gore for virtually all the statewide offices.
