Presidential Power Rankings # 35

August 29, 2007

Democrats:

1. Hillary Clinton (1)
2. Barack Obama (2)
3. John Edwards (3)
4. Bill Richardson (4)
5. Chris Dodd (6)
6. Al Gore (5)
7. Joe Biden (7)
8. Dennis Kucinich (8)
9. Mike Gravel (9)
10. Wesley Clark (10)

The one change this week is that I am moving Chris Dodd up a spot to # 5 (not that he has a prayer) because the surprise endorsement he got from the Firefighter's Union certainly cannot hurt him, and also because an Al Gore candidacy remains unlikely. Perhaps, the Firefighters assumed that Dodd's hair is flame-proof and that is why they endorsed him.

So, will Kucinich eventually overtake Biden in the Power Rankings? Stranger things have happened.

Republicans:

1. Mitt Romney (1)
2. Rudy Giuliani (2)
3. Fred Thompson (3)
4. John McCain (4)
5. Mike Huckabee (5)
6. Newt Gingrich (6)
7. Sam Brownback (7)
8. Ron Paul (8)
9. Tom Tancredo (9)
10. Duncan Hunter (10)

No changes this week.

So,in the comments from last weeks’ power rankings, arch-liberal sku, expressed his view that Huckabee should be in front of McCain and Paul should be in front of Brownback.basing these rankings on a variety of factors, including national organization,

That may very well happen in the future but I am not prepared to go there yet. I am money, grassroots support, position in the key early states, and national prominence.

Candidates like Paul and Tancredo may have more true “die-hards” at this point than Brownback and Huckabee may have more “buzz” than McCain, but I still think that the two Senators have a bit more as far as national organization and campaign infrastructure is concerned, but without a doubt, those campaigns are definitely in a lot of trouble, and it is increasingly looking like it is already reduced to a three candidate race.

Hmm, arch-liberal. Is that like arch-enemy? arch-villain? I'm trying to think if there are any good things that begin with arch (other than arch-liberal of course)...archbishop, arch de triumph?

I agree that Paul should be ahead of Brownback. There are a lot of libertarians out there.
