Corey, this is Conservative Democrat:

BREAKING NEWS:

Former Texas State Attorney General Jim Mattox (D), who served as the state's Top Law Enforcement Chief from January 18,1983 to January 15,1991, passed away in his sleep at his Dripping Springs home, outside of Austin. He was 65 yrs. old.

Mattox began his political career, serving in the Texas State House of Representatives, representing East Dallas, then he was elected to Congress in 1976, representing the 5th Congressional District of Texas for 3 terms from 1977 to 1983, and was later elected to the Texas State Attorney General's office in 1982 and reelected in 1986, but did not seek a 3rd term due to an unsuccessful bid at the Democratic gubernatorial nomination for the Texas Governor's Mansion in 1990 against then-State Treasurer Ann Richards (D).

Mattox also lost a bid for the Democratic nomination for the United States Senate in 1994, and failed to attract many fellow Democrats in his unsuccessful attempt at getting the State AG's post back in 1998 against then-Texas Supreme Court Justice (and current United States Senator) John Cornyn (R-Texas).
