NFL Week 4

The Race of the Day will return as soon as possible, but due to work responsibilities, time constraints, and Yom Kippur, it might possibly not be until Tuesday, although I hope to get to the TN Senate race as soon as possible.

Also, thank you very much Mark Foley for basically ruining my weekend. I take this politics stuff way too seriously I guess, but what a slimeball. If the Republicans wind up losing the House by 1 seat, it will probably be his fault. Same with Don Sherwood in Pennsylvania.

I'll get to the House predictions once I finish with Governor and Senate.

In the meantime...

1. Cowboys (1-1) at Titans (0-3)
2. Dolphins (1-2) at Texans (0-3)
3. Cardinals (1-2) at Falcons (2-1)
4. Colts (3-0) at Jets (2-1)
5. Vikings (2-1) at Bills (1-2)
6. Chargers (2-0) at Ravens (3-0)
7. 49'ers (1-2) at Chiefs (0-2)
8. Saints (3-0) at Panthers (1-2)
9. Lions (0-3) at Rams (2-1)
10. Jaguars (2-1) at Redskins (1-2)
11. Browns (0-3) at Raiders (0-2)
12. Patriots (2-1) at Bengals (3-0)
13. Seahawks (3-0) at Bears (3-0)
14. Packers (1-2) at Eagles (2-1)

Score thus far: 26-20 (57%)

The "Page Predator" scandal may well tip more than just one seat in the House to the Democrats. This may well be the "October Surprise" that the GOP has been dreading for months. The media will probably pounce on this issue for the next few weeks...don't be surprised if Hastert has to resign as speaker or resign from the House altogether.

I very much doubt that, but keep your hopes up Democrats, that this one situation can be so greatly blown out of proportion that your party does not need to attempt to actually try to articulate any sort of vision or agenda.

I don't think that this has any thing to do with Democratic "hopes". This is a very serious scandal that could very well mean that Hastert is not speaker of the house in January, regardless of whether the GOP retains its majority in that body. This may (or may not) be as bad as the page scandals in the early 1980s, but the difference is that in this case, it appears to be completely a GOP scandal (in the early 1980s, there was both a Republican congressman and Democratic congressman busted for having relationships with pages).

Please, give me a break there.

This is obviously worse than the earlier scandal, as there is no evidence to suggest that any teenager has actually been physically seduced by a pervert masquerading as a Congressman.

Foley is gone, while the two in the 1980s decided to stay. The Republican apologized for his conduct and was voted out of office. The Democrat refused to admit doing anything improper and kept getting reelected.

So, let's have some common sense here and realize that an actual physical relationship, and in one case a total lack of remorse is far worse, than Foley's inexcusable instant messages. If Foley's perversion went further than that, he should be held responsible to the fullest extent of the law, and we all should hope to find out who knew what and when, and that includes who in the media and who in the Democrat Party, might have been aware of this potentially dangerous conduct and kept it under wraps until they could dump out a story on the last day of the Congressional session before Election Day.
