Delaware Governor Race

Race of the Day

Delaware Governor

August 1, 2012
97 Days Until Election Day

Status: Democrat Incumbent
2008 Presidential Result: Blue State (East)

Outlook: Safe Democrat

I really do not know if there is much I can say about this race, as I am not exactly tuned into the ins and outs of Delaware state politics, but I expect that Democrat incumbent Jack Markell will easily win a second term as his state's chief executive.

In 2008, Markell was a bit of an upset winner in the primary over an opponent who had more party backing and then went on to easily win the general as well, in the Democrat friendly home state of Vice President Joe Biden.

As far as I can tell, Markell was held positive job approval numbers in his state. While the primaries in the state will not officially be held until September, it appears that his sacrificial Republican opponent will be a businessman named Jeff Cragg, who also has served as the GOP Chair in New Castle County, the state's largest.

Cragg may attempt to try to hold Markell responsible for job losses in the state, but as of now, his challenge appears to be mostly perfunctory.
