Presidential Power Rankings # 47

November 21, 2007

Democrats:
1. Hillary Clinton (1)
2. Barack Obama (2)
3. John Edwards (3)
4. Bill Richardson (5)
5. Chris Dodd (4)
6. Joe Biden (6)
7. Al Gore (7)
8. Dennis Kucinich (8)
9. Mike Gravel (9)

The most recent polling out of Iowa shows that Obama might be hot on Hillary's heels or even a little bit ahead, but those polls also show some relative strength for Bill Richardson in Iowa and New Hampshire, compared to Dodd, Biden and the rest of the back of the pack. Thus, Richardson moved back up to number 4.

Republicans:
1. Mitt Romney (1)
2. Rudy Giuliani (2)
3. John McCain (4)
4. Mike Huckabee (3)
5. Fred Thompson (5)
6. Ron Paul (6)
7. Tom Tancredo (7)
8. Alan Keyes (8)
9. Duncan Hunter (9)
10. John Cox (10)

Mike Huckabee is running a lot better than John McCain in Iowa, and may only be slightly behind McCain nationally. However, I am moving McCain back up to number three, ahead of Huckabee once again, based on the fact that McCain according to the most recent New Hampshire poll is now in a distant second. The Senator from Arizona may have trouble in a lot of states, including perhaps his own, in the primaries, but in the Granite State is believed to be in much better shape than Huckabee and Thompson (who happens to be trailing Ron Paul by a 2-1 margin in the latest poll there). Nobody should be surprised if McCain, who runs the risk of finishing fifth in Iowa, decides to pull up stakes from the caucus there entirely and gamble everything on New Hampshire.
