Presidential Power Rankings # 43

October 24, 2007

Democrats:

1. Hillary Clinton (1)
2. Barack Obama (2)
3. John Edwards (3)
4. Bill Richardson (4)
5. Chris Dodd (5)
6. Joe Biden (6)
7. Al Gore (7)
8. Dennis Kucinich (8)
9. Mike Gravel (9)
10. Stephen Colbert (new)

I am glad to be able to find an excuse to bring the list back up to ten, thanks to the enterance of Stephen Colbert, a favorite comedian of liberals, who has annouced attentions to run for President, both as a Democrat and a Republican. While Colbert's run is satirical, he could find himself in violation of federal election laws. Still, his name recognition alone, justifies putting him on this list.

Republicans:

1. Mitt Romney (1)
2. Rudy Giuliani (2)
3. Fred Thompson (3)
4. John McCain (4)
5. Mike Huckabee (5)
6. Ron Paul (6)
7. Tom Tancredo (8)
8. Alan Keyes (9)
9. Duncan Hunter (10)
10. John Cox (new)

No sooner than I question the rationale of Sam Brownback staying in the race last week, he decides to drop out. I may have more influence than I think. Anyways, that allows a couple of the back of the packers to automatically move up a spot and it even frees one up for John Cox of Cook County, Illinois, who has outlasted Gilmore, Tommy Thompson, and Sam Brownback.

Otherwise, no changes for the relevant candidates. Romney remains ahead in Iowa and New Hampshire, Giuliani remains ahead nationally, Thompson is running second nationally and in some state polls, McCain is believed to be on the rebound and could have a say in New Hampshire, and Huckabee is receiving all sorts of buzz and might possibly surprise in Iowa. All of those candidates made their supporters happy in last Sunday's GOP debate.
